Gifts from God

Being a parent can be very discouraging and scary, but at the same time it can and should be rewarding and a blessing.

I am always looking for little gems of wisdom to help me as a mom. I don’t like psycho babble or “modern” ways of relating to and disciplining my children. I am all for the tried and true ways.

I always strive to hold all that I read and learn up to the Bible. God, after all, is the author of life and Creator of all. He will guide through His Word and I also believe that He uses many great men and women to proclaim the truth and give us those little gems of wisdom.

I came upon a small booklet written by Dr. David Jeremiah, How to Encourage Your Children, that had some great little gems of wisdom.

Four Ways to Encourage Your Children

1. Focused Attention: Make each child a priority in your life, no matter how busy your life.
2. Individual Affirmation: Every child needs to know that they are unique and special.
3. Genuine Appreciation: Don’t walk around looking for what they do wrong, but for what they do right.
4. Physical Affection: Love your children in a tangible way letting them know that they are important.

This is just a very condensed version. I would recommend reading Gifts from God by Dr. Jeremiah. It is a very good book on remembering that our children are precious and encourages parents in raising godly children.

My Hope Is Built On…

I was thinking about how so many people have been easily duped into thinking that their hope is in a man, our new president and it made me recall the song about how my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ love and righteousness.

The Lord does not want us to put our hope in man and government. It will always disappoint and this instance it will lead us down an out of control spiral.

My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less
by Edward Mote

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
