I am not categorically against government regulation. I think that we as humans can be really selfish and if we don't have an incentive, we often don't do what we should. For us Christ-followers, our incentive is to be like Christ. But so many people need rules to follow in order to see outside themselves and their needs. I don't think the government should regulate every area of our life, for sure, and this is problematic because (1) regulation is a slippery slope and (2) even those with the best of intentions get power-hungry when they get in power.

I totally agree that those who are most vocal about global warming are those rich people who fly in jets all the time and do so many other things that hurt the environment. It's ridiculous hypocrisy.

Hi Laurie, thanks for taking time to comment on my blog. Sorry I am just getting back to you. Your comment was stuck in my spam box. It's amazing how God's Word is fresh and new every time I read it. I had read those passages many times and I myself had never though of them that way either. My hope is that I don't take verses out of context.

Hey Linden, thanks for reading my blog. No I don't think that you are reaching. I of course agree that we need to take care of what God has entrusted to us. What I do have a problem with is government regulating how we do that. Whenever the government gets too involved it spells disaster in all arenas of life. What is ironic is that those who try to push global warming and the like are the ones who often are the ones doing the most harm to the environment, Al Gore being one of them. The whole global warming argument has been based on lies and ulterior motives. It's really sad how low the human heart can sink. That's a whole other issue though.

Wow, excellent Biblical support for this argument! I have been thinking lately, though, that we as Christians should want to take care of the planet God put us on, right? I mean, he has entrusted it to our care, just like he did the animals (Gen 1:28) and the earth (Gen 1:29, 2:15). So I think we could argue that "saving the planet" is not only a liberal hippie idea, but also a Biblical one. Our purposes might be different (they do it to avoid an ice age or whatever and we do it so that we might honor God by treating his creation--all of it--with respect. What do you think? Am I reaching here?

P.S. Now you have my URL. :)

Good insight. I hadn't thought of that passage as relating to this whole topic.

Sorry, wrong link on the first post. Please delete that one.

I agree that we should care what people do. One of the main reasons is that God cares, and if we don’t want to see Him hurt or disappointed, we need to care what’s going on in people’s lives.

We cannot say that because something doesn’t directly affect us at that moment, that it doesn’t matter. You are right – it will eventually have an effect on how they live their lives in public.

Good post.

Has it not occurred to you that not allowing your kids to listen to the President of the United States was disrespectful? It was disrespectful to him, to the office and to the country.

Unlike his predecessor (at least the first term), President Obama was legitimately elected. He and the office deserve the respect of all of us, and in case you haven't noticed, he hasn't been getting much respect from your end of the political spectrum.

I love your post. You are so right. Our kids need a "haven." My son had similar experiences when he was in school and it was a Christian school. Then we decided to homeschool him.

Our kids also know Christ and what He did for them. Even then, it is hard being a kid and even an adult at times:-)
